PM Modi praises progress in Ukraine-India relations, declares readiness to cover Ukraine's humanitarian needs
Ukraine and India are showing progress in bilateral relations despite the war in Ukraine, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said during a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv on Friday.
Despite difficult circumstances, the countries' bilateral relations are showing good progress, he said, adding that in such a tense environment, this progress reflects the maturity of these bilateral relations.
Modi said India, with regard to the Russia-Ukraine war, favors peace through diplomatic efforts. The country has provided and is providing humanitarian assistance to Ukraine, the Prime Minister said.
In times of crisis, the people of Ukraine are facing several types of needs, he said, adding that India made every effort to ensure that these needs are closed. Modi assured that India will ensure that Ukraine's humanitarian needs are satisfied.
The television channel NDTV quoted Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar as saying that Modi reiterated India's position on the need for dialog and diplomacy to resolve the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
Jaishankara added that Modi and Zelenskyy also to some extent discussed holding a peace summit on Ukraine. The prime minister reaffirmed India's readiness to contribute in every possible way to a peaceful resolution of the Russia-Ukraine military conflict.
