Visit of Japanese Justice Minister to Ukraine is clear, important signal of support – Kostin

Prosecutor General of Ukraine Andriy Kostin believes that the visit of the Minister of Justice of Japan to Ukraine is a clear and important signal of support, the press service of the Office of the Prosecutor General reports.

"Mr. Koizumi made his first international visit as Minister of Justice to Ukraine. This is a clear signal of support from Japan, very important for Ukraine, which is fighting for its future," Kostin emphasized.

It is reported that Kostin and Koizumi visited Bucha on Monday, where they honored the memory of those killed during the Russian occupation of the city (in March 2022).

It is noted that during the bilateral meeting with the participation of Deputy Head of the President's Office Iryna Mudra, the parties discussed key priorities for cooperation between Ukraine and Japan in the field of justice, and also agreed to strengthen cooperation, in particular, on the responsibility of the Russian Federation for war crimes.

"This is, first of all: holding Russia accountable for international crimes committed against Ukraine, eradicating corruption, strengthening cooperation in the field of international legal assistance," the report says.

The Japanese delegation also inspected the hub for supporting victims and witnesses in Bucha, where prosecutors and investigators, as well as representatives of the Coordination Center of the Prosecutor General's Office, work daily.

As previously reported, Japanese Justice Minister Koizumi Ryuji and Ukrainian Justice Minister Denys Maliuska signed a Memorandum of Cooperation in the Field of Law and Justice on Monday, the Japanese Embassy in Ukraine reported.
