Zhovkva: Next five years - window of opportunity that Ukraine, EU should use very wisely

Ihor Zhovkva, Deputy Head of the President’s Office, during a public discussion with participants of the Advisory Group on Ukraine's Accession to the European Union, said that Ukraine and the EU "should use the next five years very wisely."

“Deputy Head of the Office of the President Ihor Zhovkva participated in a public discussion entitled ‘The Process of Ukraine's Accession to the EU: How to Move Effectively and Quickly.’ The event was organized on the occasion of the visit by the Advisory Group on Ukraine's EU Accession,” the press service said on the official website on Monday.

It is reported that among the group’s participants were 11 former chief negotiators, EU commissioners, ministers, and ambassadors from the Nordic-Baltic Eight countries. They will assist Ukraine on its path to EU membership.

During the discussion, Zhovkva emphasized the importance of continuing to advocate for Ukraine’s EU accession both in Brussels and among the capitals of member states as each stage of the negotiations will require a joint decision within the EU.

In addition, he also emphasized that since applying for accession, Ukraine has made tangible steps toward integration.

"From now on, with the start of the bilateral screening, we have entered a more technical phase of negotiations, and the results of our work will drive success on this path. The next five years are a window of opportunity that we all (the EU and Ukraine) must use wisely, without wasting time," the press service quoted Zhovkva as saying.
