IMF awaits laws on PEPs, resumption of tax audits

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) currently focuses on the second review of the Extended Fund Facility program with Ukraine, which requires the adoption of laws on financial monitoring of politically exposed persons (PEP) and the resumption of tax audits, said IMF Mission Chief for Ukraine Gavin Gray.

“I believe that these are two key elements,” he said at a press conference in Kyiv following the visit of the fund delegation.

Those decisions are expected in the coming weeks, Gray said.

He added that additional negotiations are underway with the Ukrainian side on conceptual comments on the Affordable Loans 5-7-9% state lending program.

The mission chief noted that the recent adoption of a law on the restoration of electronic declaration of property by officials, as well as amendments to the Budget Code was important.

“Right now, in terms of structural reforms or structural indicators within our program, there are a number of measures that we will look at in the second review, mainly in the areas of public administration, fight against corruption and fiscal policy,” he concluded.

Gray also said that Ukraine has met all quantitative targets for the second review of the program, set at the end of June, and this is an important starting point and an important achievement.
