The process of restoring the telecom infrastructure in Ukrainian territories after their liberation may be more effective if the three largest mobile operators can agree on joining efforts and a single network, Oleksandr Komarov, president of Kyivstar, the largest Ukrainian mobile operator, said.

"I will allow myself such speculation: if tomorrow the task is to restore Ukrainian communications in Crimea, then if three operators build one network, it will be many times more efficient and many times faster," he said in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine.

"This is a very good reason to think on what new grounds we can cooperate where we do not compete," the head of Kyivstar added.

According to him, operators compete on store shelves, in the minds of customers, compete with new services, but in such socially important issues as de-occupation, restoration, the speed of Ukraine's return to certain territories, cooperation is more important than competition.

Commenting on the build back better principle declared during the restoration of the country, Komarov noted that it is not so relevant in the Ukrainian telecom infrastructure, since it is already very modern and was built to introduce 4G and 5G technologies.

"We built everything at a modern level and with the best global vendors. We (in the telecom industry) are not like with some hydroelectric power plants, that the infrastructure is seventy or fifty years old," the head of Kyivstar explained.

In his opinion, the infrastructure in Ukraine is even more modern and dense than in many European countries. "Because 94% of population coverage is a significant indicator for a country with the size of Ukraine," Komarov said.
