Ukraine develops detailed complex of electricity saving under martial law – Shmyhal

The relevant departments have developed a detailed set of reasonable consumption of electricity by the population, enterprises, institutions and organizations under martial law, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal says.

"Over this week, we have proven that we can promptly restore and return to operation most of the power grids. To do this, power engineers, rescuers, local authorities, and the government are working in an enhanced mode. Everyone is in their place. Everyone knows what to do. We will restore everything," Shmyhal said at a government meeting on Tuesday.

According to him, on Monday, during the evening peak, the level of electricity consumption in Kyiv decreased by 10% compared to the previous day, in the entire central region of the country – by 8%, however, in Ukraine as a whole, the level of consumption during the evening peak increased by 1.8% due to the western and northern regions of Ukraine.

"Therefore, I want to emphasize once again: maximum energy saving is what we ask every Ukrainian to do. This is especially true in the evening hours. From 17:00 to 23:00, do not use washing machines, boilers, air conditioners, heaters. Limit the use of electric kettles and electric stoves. Turn off the lights in rooms where you are not. Reschedule maintenance work during daylight hours. I appeal to business: turn off signs and unnecessary lighting. Every kilowatt of energy that you do not use will give additional stability to our power system," he stressed.

Shmyhal noted that at present, the responsible departments have developed a detailed set of reasonable consumption of electricity by the population, enterprises, institutions and organizations under martial law, in particular, during the period of maximum load during peak hours.

"This set of measures will make it possible to apply restrictions pragmatically and effectively if necessary," the prime minister said.
