Naftogaz collects $9 mln each month from Gazprom for two months

The total sum of overpayments to PJSC Gazprom for gas transit sent to National Joint-Stock Company Naftogaz Ukrainy to offset the penalty accrued on the debt of the Russian company in line with the arbitration award on the transit contract issued on February 28, 2018, has reached $18 million, Chief Commercial Officer of Naftogaz Ukrainy Yuriy Vitrenko has said.

"By the way, in addition to $2.1 billion, which, in accordance with the arbitration award, we have already withdrawn from Gazprom in the form of gas, we have also already withdrawn from Gazprom $18 million in cash. For two months in a row we collect $9 million in cash from Gazprom," he wrote on his Facebook page on Wednesday night.

As reported, according to the decision of the Stockholm arbitration of February 28, 2018, Gazprom owes Naftogaz Ukrainy $2.56 billion for non-fulfillment of obligations under the transit contract, on which penalty is also charged for each day of non-execution of the arbitration decision.

At present, the amount of accrued fine has exceeded $100 million.

On October 10, Naftogaz Ukrainy reported that the company sent a statement to Gazprom that it collected overpayments for gas transit as the sum to refund the penalty.
