U.S. will issue $200 mln to Ukraine for security and defense in 2018

The United States of America has decided to issue $200 million to Ukraine to strengthen security and defense in the 2018 budget year, the Ukrainian Embassy in the United States has reported.

"The United States has decided to issue $200 million to Ukraine for strengthening security and defense in 2018. These funds will be used to provide our country with military equipment and services, logistics support and the training of the Ukrainian Armed Forces," reads a report on the embassy's Facebook page.

The Ukrainian embassy is confident that providing Kyiv with another financial aid is the confirmation of the unchanged position of the United States on the further support of Ukraine.

"Washington's decision to provide our state with $200 million in 2018 through the Pentagon is the evidence of the unchanged position of the U.S. regarding support for Ukraine in its counteraction to Russian aggression and the recognition that Kyiv continues a consistent movement on the path of reforms in the security and defense sector," the report says.

Commenting on this decision of the United States, First Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Iryna Gerashchenko said on Facebook this became possible, in particular, thanks to the adopted law on national security, which was highly appreciated by Ukrainian partners and criticized by the Ukrainian parliamentary opposition.
