Ukrenergo, largest power generation market players in Ukraine sign memo to jointly work on integration into ENTSO-E

National Energy Company Ukrenergo, National Nuclear Generating Company Energoatom, public joint-stock company Ukrhydroenergo, DTEK Energo LLC, public joint-stock company Centrenergo and public joint-stock company Donbasenergo have signed a memorandum to jointly work on the achievement of the future integration of Ukraine's power grid with the European Network of Transmission System Operators (ENTSO-E).

Ukrenergo said that the document signed on November 8 documents the common interest of all parties in the future joining ENTSO-E. It envisages the creation of a joint coordination council headed by Ukrenergo. Within one month from the moment of its signing representatives of the sides are to draw up a technical action plan.

"The purpose of the council's activities is to provide professional consultations on technical issues, to facilitate Ukraine's speedy implementation of the requirements of the catalog of measures, which is part of the agreement on the conditions for the future integration of the power grids of Ukraine and Moldova with the continental Europe's power grid," the company said.

The parties will also try to jointly defend interests in the issue of joining ENTSO-E in relations with the central executive agencies, other public agencies of Ukraine and international partners.

"The integration of the Ukrainian power grid with the European one is a complex and complicated task for all market participants and policy makers, and not just for the power transmission operator as a signatory of the agreement. I am very glad that everyone understands the need for coordination of actions and shared responsibility on the way to achieving the important goal of membership in ENTSO- E," Ukrenergo Head Vsevolod Kovalchuk said.

"The signing of the memorandum is an important step for the energy sector and the state, which makes the country a step closer to integrating with ENTSO-E, which is something that DTEK has always supported. We are happy to join forces with other companies for a common goal. We understand: the absence of "power borders" is the key to further development of Ukraine's energy sector," DTEK Energo CEO Dmytro Sakharuk said.

"In the memorandum signed, all have arranged to move in a coordinated way towards a common power market with Europe. It is now important to define clear objectives and priorities for all the participants," Centrenergo Head Oleh Kozemko said.
