Ukraine should reduce the share of nuclear fuel purchases from Russia to 45% in 2017, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has said.

"How much have we received [nuclear fuel from Russia] in 2016 - it's 55% already. How much did I set the task for Mr. Minister [Ihor Nasalyk] in 2017. It's 45% already," he said during his visit to Trypilska combined heat and power plant (CHPP) in the town of Ukrainka in Kyiv region on Thursday, June 8.

According to Poroshenko, the diversification of sources of nuclear fuel supplies for Ukrainian nuclear power plants is an important goal for ensuring the country's energy security.

As reported, Ukraine in January-March 2017 purchased nuclear fuel to the tune of $121.458 million.
