Kyiv, Moscow to formulate positions over gas supply resumption before Tuesday - Prodan

The European Commission (EC) has received proposals from Russia and Ukraine over a resumption of natural gas supplies and is now trying to integrate these proposals.

"Each side, both the Ukrainian and the Russian parties, received proposals from one another and have until Tuesday to report to the Commission about which of those points are acceptable, and the Commission, on the basis of these conclusions, is to integrate all these proposals into a united position," Ukraine's Fuel and Energy Minister Yuriy Prodan told reporters in Brussels on Friday.

There are a number of positions which raise no disputes, but at the same time, a lot of debatable points remain, he said. "We even have differences over who signs the protocol," said Prodan, while expressing hope that the parties would still manage to reach a compromise.

The minister also recalled that a Stockholm arbitrator is hearing bilateral lawsuits as efforts continue to find a compromise solution continues at trilateral talks.

Prodan stressed that today it does not matter much whether the parties decide to make changes to the contract or sign an additional document reflecting the reached agreements; what matters is reaching a compromise.
