Ukraine will increase meat exports by almost 10% in 2013, says ministry

Meat and meat products exports from Ukraine in 2014 could grow by 9.9% or 18,000 tonnes, to 200,000 tonnes, according to the forecast in the balances of the interagency working group at the Economic Development and Trade Ministry of Ukraine.

According to the ministry's tentative data, last year Ukraine supplied 182,000 tonnes of meat to foreign markets, including 145,000 tonnes of poultry meat, 27,000 tonnes of beef and 6,000 tonnes of pork.

In 2014, exports will growth thanks to poultry meat (172,000 tonnes), while exports of pork could be 5,000 tonnes and that for beef – 20,000 tonnes.

The ministry expects that imports of meat and meat products this year will decrease by 6.7%, to 321,000 tonnes. Imports of pork will fall by 10.3%, to 210,000 tonnes, poultry meat imports will be cut by 18.9%, to 60,000 tonnes, and beef imports will grow by 42.9%, to 30,000 tonnes.

Meat production this year will total 2.485 million tonnes, compared with 2.398 million tonnes last year. The ministry said that beef production would fall from 403,000 tonnes to 400,000 tonnes, while pork and poultry meat output will grow to 785,000 tonnes and 1.265 million tonnes respectively.
