Porkhun: Veterans Ministry should be present
Acting Minister of Veterans Affairs Oleksandr Porkhun believes that the Ministry of Veterans Affairs should be preserved and become a visionary of veteran policy.
"The Ministry of Veterans Affairs should exist. The Ministry should become a visionary of veteran policy in terms of its formation and implementation. And most importantly, to act as a coordinator for the implementation of the veteran policy and involve all stakeholders, from all central executive authorities, local governments and directly the Cabinet of Ministers, the Verkhovna Rada and the President’s Office, to start the synergy. And the main thing in this process is the Ministry of Veterans Affairs," Porkhun said in a comment to the Interfax-Ukraine news agency in Kyiv on Monday, answering a question about reformatting the ministry.
When asked whether the ministry should scale up, he said that there are different visions of this approach.
"My position is that it is necessary to establish communication with other central bodies of executive power. It’s not necessary to invent something that is already working. We just need to do better analytics, conduct better opinion polls in order to understand the needs of veterans, and create a strategy for veterans' policy that will be flexible," the acting minister added.
Porkhun said that today the ministry is developing a strategy for veteran policy, a strategy for the transition from a military career to civilian life, and also plans to launch a number of projects that will create an infrastructure for veteran policy.
As for his full-fledged appointment as minister, he said that this was not a question for him.
