Biden extends state of emergency in connection with Russian aggression in Ukraine

U.S. President Joseph Biden extended the state of emergency, which was introduced in 2014 in connection with the Russian aggression in Ukraine, for another year, the White House reports.

“The actions and policies of persons that undermine democratic processes and institutions in Ukraine; threaten its peace, security, stability, sovereignty, and territorial integrity; and contribute to the misappropriation of its assets, as well as the actions and policies of the Government of the Russian Federation, including its purported annexation of Crimea and its use of force in Ukraine, continue to pose an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security and foreign policy of the United States. Therefore, I have determined that it is necessary to continue the national emergency declared in Executive Order 13660 with respect to Ukraine,” Biden's letter addressed to the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the Chairman of the Senate reads.

The White House press release notes that the decree extends the state of emergency for a period of one year.

The state of emergency in the United States in connection with the threat to national security and foreign policy created by the actions and policies of individuals who undermine democratic processes and institutions in Ukraine was declared on March 6, 2014.
