The State Security Service (SBU) with the personal assistance of the Minister of Defense of Ukraine, exposed the head of the Department of Capital Investments of the Ministry of Defense, who in 2022-2023 bought and "transferred" real estate and an elite vehicle fleet to his common-law wife, for corruption.

"According to the investigation, during 2022-2023, the defendant illegally enriched himself by almost UAH 14 million," the SBU said on its Telegram channel.

According to SBU, he later used this money to purchase two apartments in new buildings, a garage and a parking space in Kyiv. In addition, for the "profits" received, the official bought three premium cars, including Lexus and BMW brands.

"Then, in order to hide the acquired assets, the official transferred them to his common-law wife. At the same time, the defendant issued a power of attorney for the management of this property," SBU said.

During the investigation, it was established that more than UAH 3 million were concealed from declaration, and another UAH 3.5 million the official kept it with his common-law wife.

Based on materials from the military counterintelligence of the SBU, an official of the Defense Ministry was informed of suspicion under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine: ⁠Article 368-5 (illegal enrichment); ⁠part 1 of Article 366-2 (declaration of false information).

The issue of choosing a preventive measure is currently being decided. The investigation is ongoing to establish all the circumstances of the crime.

The perpetrator faces up to ten years in prison.

Complex activities were carried out jointly with the National Police under the procedural leadership of Kyiv Specialized Prosecutor's Office in the field of defense of the central region.
