Ukraine can count on receiving first Danish F-16 fighter jets this summer – Ministry of Defense

Denmark will transfer F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine this summer, the country's Defense Ministry reports, citing the international coalition of the air force, which, led by Denmark, the Netherlands and the United States, is coordinating the transfer of the first F-16 fighters to Ukraine.

"Work is underway to prepare Ukraine for receiving the first Danish gift of F-16 combat aircraft this summer. This is stated by the international air force coalition, which is led by Denmark together with the Netherlands and the United States," the Ministry of Defense said on its official website.

"It is expected that the first Danish F-16 combat aircraft will be transferred to Ukraine this summer. This is a message from the international coalition of the air Force, which, led by Denmark, the Netherlands and the United States, coordinates the ongoing training of the F-16 and preparations for the transfer of the first F-16 fighters to Ukraine," the Danish Defense Ministry reports.

"It is difficult to set a fixed schedule for the transfer of F-16 fighters, because there are several conditions that must be met so that Ukraine can use the donated aircraft. But I informed the conciliation circle that we are now working on its higher unity this summer, when we expect to transfer the first F-16 fighters to Ukraine if preparations go according to plan," the message says, citing Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen.

As noted, the final transfer of the first Danish F-16 combat aircraft depends, among other things, on the full training of Ukrainian pilots and the necessary Ukrainian support personnel, as well as on the availability of the necessary logistics and infrastructure in Ukraine. The International Air Force Coalition in Support of Ukraine is making every effort to ensure this.

Denmark has been leading the Air Force coalition along with the Netherlands and the United States since its creation in the fall of 2023. The coalition was formed as part of the U.S.-led Ukraine Defense Contact Group and initially focuses on providing F-16 fighter jets in Ukraine.
