Yermak, Rasmussen announces creation of working group on security, Euro-Atlantic integration of Ukraine
Head of the President’s Office of Ukraine Andriy Yermak and former NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen announced in Kyiv on Tuesday the creation of a working group on security and Euro-Atlantic integration.
"Its goal, first of all, is to work with NATO member countries, with the expert environment, with the political environment in order to build an atmosphere that would help our path to NATO," Yermak said at a briefing in Kyiv.
According to him, the group includes, in particular, former Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite, Polish President Aleksander Kwasniewski, former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
"We have an ambitious plan that concerns the Washington NATO summit and the steps that would lead us to full membership," Yermak said.
Ahead, Yermak said, "there are many international platforms, conferences, the Munich Conference and many others. Of course, we will use all these platforms to present our position so that the issue of Ukraine's future membership in NATO becomes a primary topic."
Rasmussen said he was looking forward to resuming common cooperation in a new international working group that would focus on future security measures for Ukraine.
He said that at today's meeting with President Zelenskyy, he was glad to accept his offer to become co–chairman together with Andriy Yermak of this new international working group.
According to Rasmussen, he is pleased to contribute to the work of the new working group, which will focus on the upcoming NATO summit in Washington in July.
Rasmussen reminded that at the Vilnius summit, NATO leaders stated that the invitation to Ukraine to join the Alliance will be extended when the conditions are met. According to him, the working group will focus on these conditions.
