Kuleba: There’re encouraging expectations from European Council summit on Feb 1

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba stated "encouraging expectations" from the upcoming extraordinary summit of the European Council on February 1.

"Together, we have encouraging expectations from the next meeting of the European Council on February 1. There is progress regarding the opening of the European Peace Facility, on which the situation has been blocked for a long time due to the position of individual members of the European Union. But we are working on unblocking and there are encouraging steps in this direction," Kuleba said at a joint press conference with Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis in Kyiv.

Kuleba noted that he and his Lithuanian counterpart also talked about the "classic agenda" – the European Union, NATO.

"We have common approaches here, and Lithuania, as a member of both institutions, helps us as much as possible on the way to membership in them. We discussed the issues of frozen assets, sanctions and everything that needs effective solutions," the minister added.

In addition, he thanked the Lithuanian diplomats in Washington, who are also working with both parties in Congress to help make the necessary decisions on assistance to Ukraine.

As reported, the European Council summit will be held on February 1. Ukraine expects that a positive decision will be made there on the allocation of financial support to Ukraine in the amount of EUR 50 billion under the Ukraine Facility program.
