Ukraine starts producing artillery systems according to NATO standards, doubles production of ammunition - Kamyshin

Ukraine began producing artillery systems according to NATO standards and doubled the production of ammunition, Minister for Strategic Industries Oleksandr Kamyshin said at a panel discussion at the Ukraine House in Davos on Wednesday.

In addition, according to him, the assembly of hybrid air defense systems has begun, and the production of drones and thermal imagers is expanding.

“We are currently experiencing a unique experience of transition from Soviet heritage standards to NATO standards and have already begun to produce artillery systems according to NATO standards. As my president (President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy) said, we are already starting to do this. We have managed to double the production of ammunition. This is what we should pay the most attention to," Kamyshin said.

According to him, the need for components in which there is an acute shortage will be filled by creating joint ventures with foreign partners.

“There are not enough components, there are not enough explosives. Therefore, we must pay attention to joint production with European and American companies. I am sure that joint efforts will give appropriate results,” the minister said.

He said that Ukraine is actively developing air defense by creating hybrid installations.

“Of course, any air defense system, if a new one is developed, requires a long time... And in order not to wait for years, we created homemade air defense. We took Soviet components and used Western missiles. Or, let’s say, we took Western missiles, Western launchers, to which used Soviet missiles,” Kamyshin said.

He expressed gratitude to the European and American strategic partners who helped Ukraine with strengthening its air defense.

“This helped us save lives,” Kamyshin stated.

In addition, according to him, the production of drones is developing at a rapid pace in Ukraine.

“If you wanted to buy something made in Ukraine a year ago, you would have had little success. There were some brands, but there was not enough craftsmanship. This year (2023) proved that we have built this industry. And it has become a visible and important component of the defense industry. We produce something that works in the sky, on the water and under the sea. Everything works," the minister added.
