Six-month UN report shows approximately six civilians killed, 20 injured daily in Ukraine

Head of the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine (HRMMU) Danielle Bell at the presentation of a new report on the human rights situation in Ukraine, said that from February 1 to July 31 this year, at least 1,028 civilians were killed as a result of hostilities residents and 3,593 people were injured.

At a briefing in Kyiv on Wednesday, she said on average, almost six civilians were killed and 20 were injured every day. The majority of the casualties, 86%, occurred in government-controlled territory and were therefore likely the result of attacks carried out by Russia, the official said.

The report also found that large-area explosive weapons caused over 90% of the casualties. At the same time, a significant number of civilian casualties were recorded as a result of the use of the multiple launch rocket system. Cluster munitions have also caused civilian casualties in government-controlled territory.

In addition, Belle said since the beginning of July, at least 25 Russian attacks have damaged or destroyed infrastructure related to grain exports.

The report covers the period from February 1 to July 31 of the current year. The report and its findings are based on data collected during field missions, visits to places of detention, and remote monitoring of occupied territory. Its findings are based on 1,226 interviews with victims, witnesses, survivors, their relatives, lawyers, government representatives, civil society and other interlocutors.
