Markarova: Nothing threatens U.S. supplies of weapons, equipment to Ukraine, previously approved

Ukrainian Ambassador to the United States Oksana Markarova announced she will continue to work with partners to confirm U.S. assistance after a temporary budget resolution for 45 days was adopted to avoid a shutdown, which did not include funding for Ukraine.

"Currently, the interim budget resolution has only been adopted for 45 days. Congress and the Administration made sure that the funds from the previous budget for assistance programs to Ukraine were transitional. The funds are there. The government will work so there is no threat to the supply of weapons and equipment approved previously," she said on the social network Facebook.

"We now have at least an additional $1.6 billion in defense assistance and $1.23 billion more in direct budget assistance (this is the September tranche just transferred to the World Bank accounts), plus significant amounts for energy and other programs to use," Markarova said.

She said at the end of 45 days a new decision would be required. "Actually, there is time, there are resources, and most importantly, there is bipartisan and bicameral support for Ukraine, which makes it possible to work to confirm American assistance to the Ukrainian struggle for freedom and to save people's lives. And my many conversations today with both Ukrainian caucuses and other leaders in Congress in both houses gives reason to believe that even before the end of these 45 days we will be discussing specific solutions for Ukraine," she said.

It was previously reported that both houses of Congress voted on Saturday for a temporary 45-day budget resolution to avoid a government shutdown; the temporary funding law does not include U.S. aid to Ukraine.
