Verkhovna Rada backs introduction of sanctions against Iran for 50 years – MP
The Verkhovna Rada has supported the introduction of sanctions against Iran for 50 years, Ukrainian parliamentarian Oleksiy Honcharenko (European Solidarity faction) has said.
"Rada has approved the introduction of sanctions against Iran for 50 years," he said on the Telegram channel on Monday.
Respective bill No. 9333 was backed by 328 MPs at a plenary session on Monday.
As reported, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy submitted to the Verkhovna Rada a draft law dated May 27, 2023 on the application of sectoral special economic and other restrictive measures (sanctions) against the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The restrictive measures include a complete ban on trade operations with Iran, stopping the transit of resources, flights and transportation by Iran through the territory of Ukraine, as well as preventing the withdrawal of capital by Iranian residents outside Ukraine. In addition, it is proposed to prohibit the transfer of technology, rights to intellectual property objects to Iranian residents and prohibit investments in the Islamic Republic of Iran.
