Zelenskyy, Orlando Bloom discuss restoration of school infrastructure

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador Orlando Bloom and the UNICEF team – an organization engaged in humanitarian support and protection of children.

"Orlando Bloom has been working meaningfully in this direction for a long time. He has already been to Ukraine, in our Donbas, even before the full-scale war. And he knows what this aggression has brought, how full-scale the world's efforts must be to stop it, to restore Ukraine after the war," he said in a video address on Sunday, March 26.

"We discussed the issue of rebuilding our country, our school infrastructure. I appreciate this help. We agreed that our teams should work on several issues. In particular, this is the issue of the return of our children who were forcibly taken to Russia, this is the creation of bomb shelters for our children. And the third is the technical support of distance education in those areas and regions where it is impossible to study offline due to relevant threats," Zelenskyy said.

As reported by the UNICEF Ukraine press service, British actor and UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador Bloom has arrived in Ukraine to visit Spilno (Together) children's center, where children can play, learn and receive psychological support.

"I arrived in Ukraine today for my first trip back since 2016. I would have never expected the war to have escalated throughout the country since I was there. But today I was fortunate to hear children's laughter at a UNICEF supported Spilno center, a safe, warm and nurturing space for children to play, learn and receive psychosocial support," Bloom said on his Instagram.

He said the word "spilno" means "together" in Ukrainian and there are over 180 of these centers here.

"The one I visited today was built deep down in the metro to ensure their safety. For a few hours every day, parents can drop off their young children and give them a sense of normalcy to play games and just be kids. There was also lots of art supplies and craft materials, which allows them to creatively express themselves, away from the pressures of growing up in a war zone. Children in Ukraine need their childhoods back. Watch this space for more on my visit," Bloom said.
