Russia once again disrupts opening of humanitarian corridors from encircled cities - Ukrainian Foreign Ministry

2 min read

Contrary to the agreements reached, on March 7, the Russian Federation once again disrupted the opening of humanitarian corridors for the evacuation of civilians from the encircled cities in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Donetsk and Kherson regions, the press service of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry reported on Monday.

"The armed forces of the Russian Federation continue to carry out missile and bomb strikes on Kyiv, Mariupol, Volnovakha, Sumy, Mykolaiv, Kharkiv and other settlements, which makes it impossible for humanitarian convoys with Ukrainian and foreign citizens to leave safely, as well as the delivery of medicines and food," the statement says.

It clarifies that Russia must stop violating agreements, stop the spread of disinformation and the manipulation of the lives of civilians.

"Evacuation through humanitarian corridors is possible only if the ceasefire regime is observed, for which the Ukrainian side is ready," the Foreign Ministry said.

The department said that they consider unacceptable Moscow's attempts to force the civilian population from the encircled cities to leave for the territory of the Russian Federation and Belarus, given the high likelihood of provocations, in particular, taking evacuated people hostage or using them by the Russian army as human shields.

"Ukraine calls on states, in particular whose leaders are in contact with President Putin, to make every effort to force Russia to ensure a ceasefire regime to open humanitarian corridors and prevent a large-scale humanitarian catastrophe. The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry continues to be in constant contact with the embassies of foreign states whose citizens found themselves in the area of hostilities, and renders them maximum assistance in the evacuation of their citizens by Ukrainian territory," the Foreign Ministry reported.
