Ex-NBU chief Gontareva calls on Nabullina to resign as Russian central bank head

The best way out after the war launched by Russia against Ukraine is for the head of the Central Bank of Russia, Elvira Nabiullina as well as the entire composition of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation, to resign in protest against the bloody war. They should not finance the criminal regime, former governor of the National Bank of Ukraine Valeriya Gontareva has said

"It's a pity to see how the once respected central banker in the world, who received the award of the best head of the world's Central Bank, sold her soul to the Devil," Gontareva told Interfax-Ukraine.

She said that on March 2, the representative of the Russian Federation in the World Bank, Boris Lvin, resigned in protest against the war unleashed by Russia against Ukraine.

"And she [Nabiullina] not only did not resign, but continues to support this bloody regime and tries to justify its actions," she said.

Commenting on the address of the head of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation to bank employees the day before, Gontareva said: "The complete collapse of their banking system has already begun and there is no longer any need to wait for help from the Central Bank in the foreign exchange market. So far, they have supported the ruble with the money of exporters, but the imposition of sanctions and the imminent oil embargo, the exit of the largest multinational companies and the shutdown of payment systems will do their job - already very soon this support will also dry up."

In her opinion, "no monetary policy of the Central Bank or its payment system will help. They are doomed. Collapse is inevitable."

Gontareva said that in 2015 the NBU decided on the vision, mission and values on the basis of which the organization's corporate culture is built. "And that is why even in the midst of a bloody war, our NBU and the banking system work like clockwork! And the team of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation simply cannot work without vital values and vision," she said

Gontareva headed the NBU from June 2014 to March 2018. During this period, Russia invaded and occupied areas of eastern Ukraine, known as Donbas.
