Socialists put forward Kiva for presidential elections

The Socialist Party of Ukraine's national congress has put forward a candidate for the presidential elections, changed its symbols and taken a decision about the party's participation in local elections.

The congress took place in Kyiv on Saturday. Some 2,500 persons took part, according to the party's press service.

Illia Kiva was selected as the party's candidate in presidential elections. The nomination was supported unanimously.

"For me, it's a heavy cross and a responsibility. I will make mistakes… But I will fight, I will work to improve myself. And I know that with your support, we will definitely win. … I will never betray you. I have one homeland. I swear to you to be honest and devoted to our country," Kiva said.

Further, the members of the Socialist Party of Ukraine unanimously voted for the approval of the new symbolism of the party, which represents a strong clenched fist.

"The situation is changing and the direction of our party is changing. We will fight. The fist always personified struggle and unity. This clenched fist is the key to victory over evil, corruption, crime. The fist is what will save our future," Kiva said.

The congress was attended by members of the SPU Political Council and heads of regional party organizations.
