Visa regime with UK could be achieved in several year, no dialog today

The United Kingdom is not ready for facilitating the visa regime with Ukraine, but the U.K. admits that there are problems, Ukrainian Ambassador to Great Britain Natalia Halibarenko has said.

"The bad news is that there is no dialogue about simplification [of the visa regime]... But we are not ready to confine ourselves to improving the service and will continue to press ahead," the ambassador said at the press conference of the 13th meeting of heads of foreign diplomatic institutions of Ukraine in Kyiv on Tuesday.

"I understand the desire of the British side not to solve the issue of visa policy point-to-point. We would like to move now. In due time, the U.K. unconditionally supported the introduction of a visa-free regime with the EU and Ukraine. So let's make such a document - a roadmap indicating the stages," she said.

The ambassador expressed her confidence that in several years the visa regime for travel of Ukrainian citizens to the U.K. will be simplified.

According to the diplomat, the British side recognizes the presence of many problems in the visa practice.

"Previously, the Foreign Office "nodded" to the Home Office that it was not ready to conduct a dialogue, but now we have a situation that the two agencies have a common position," the diplomat said.

According to Halibarenko, the U.K. informed Kyiv that it is ready to work on improving the service and striving to reduce the time for issuing visas.
