Denisova discusses bill drafting on Ukrainian Ombudsman, Ukraine situation with OSCE PA special rep on gender issues

The Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Liudmyla Denisova and special representative of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly on Gender Issues Hedy Fry have discussed the powers of the Ukrainian Ombudsman, as well as the situation in Ukraine around the LGBT, labor exploitation and violation of human rights and freedoms in the country's East, the press service of the Ombudswoman has reported.

"During the meeting of the Ombudswoman with the Special Representative of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly on Gender Issues, Mrs. Hedy Fry, the issues of the powers of the Ukrainian Ombudswoman were discussed and the Representative of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly supported the Commissioner in the preparation of a new bill on the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, according to which the legislative initiatives of the Ombudsman will be extended," the ombudsman's website said on Thursday.

Fry drew attention to the issues of family values in Ukraine.

"We talked about many things: family values, violence in the family, families that cannot function properly from generation to generation, because a child in the family suffered from violence, and then cannot create his own family. We discussed the situation in Ukraine around LGBT, labor exploitation and violation of human rights and freedoms in the East of Ukraine," wrote Denisova on her Facebook page.

At the same time, Fry noted the moral support of Kyiv from 53 states that voted for the resolution in support of Ukraine.

Denisova expressed hope that such a powerful international support would force the Russian president to give in and become the last straw that would convince him to end the war and liberate Donbas and occupied Crimea.

"Ukraine keeps the enemy on its territory. If we do not restrain it, it will go to Poland, Lithuania and farther. Your support is very important for us. Of course, we will all win together," the Ukrainian ombudswoman said.
