'Corruption Park' to open in Kyiv on June 1

'Corruption Park' located in Kyiv's Hryshko National Botanical Garden is scheduled to open on June 1, 2018. The project aims to attract attention to high-level corruption in Ukraine.

"If public opinion about corruption does not change, it will be very difficult to hope something can be done about it. This park is not for settling legal accounts. It's meant to create an impression about what corruption is and what can be done to fight against it," head of the European Union's Anti-Corruption Initiative Eka Tkeshelashvili said on Friday during a press conference in Kyiv.

Some 700 square meters of the park will be used to show the evolution of corruption and the battle against it. Construction of the park is based on nine inflatable floats, each of which will represent an object, for example, a golden loaf of bread.

"The project will have two sections: corruption and anti-corruption," project leader Yaroslava Hres said.

Hres said the park will also be equipped with interactive panels, installations, 3D murals and virtual reality. She added the park will start operating on June 1 for 17 days. Admission is free, she said, although visitors must pay the entrance fee to the botanical gardens first.
