Kyiv calls for following UNSC decision on Jerusalem status

Ukraine's Foreign Ministry has said Kyiv favors compliance with international law and supports the necessity of fulfilling United Nations Security Council resolutions about the status of Jerusalem.

"We think the world community must focus its efforts, including in the United Nations, on avoiding violence and to encourage sides to immediately resume peace talks about to secure peace in the Middle East," a statement issued by the ministry on Friday said.

On December 6, 2017, U.S. President Donald Trump announced the United States would move its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

"I have determined that it is time to officially recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel," Trump said. "While previous presidents have made this a major campaign promise, they failed to deliver. Today, I am delivering."

Trump said: "My announcement today marks the beginning of a new approach to the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians."
