EU concerned about possible reducing of previously planned financing of Regional Development Fund for 2018

Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Ukraine, Hugues Mingarelli, expresses the EU's concern over the possible reduction in the level of financing of the state regional development fund in the draft state budget of Ukraine for 2018 by the second reading, compared to the original draft.

The premier was right when he suggested to allocate 1% of the total budget revenue to the State Fund for Regional Development in the draft budget for the next year, he said during the second All-Ukrainian Forum of Merged Communities in Kyiv on Monday.

Mingarelli urged the Ukrainian parliament to ensure sufficient funding of the Fund.

Financing of the State Regional Development Fund gives a chance to economically less developed areas in Ukraine, but we are concerned that in its proposals for the next year the budget committee of the Verkhovna Rada decided to recommend reducing the amount of financing by UAH 5 billion. This proposal, if adopted, will reduce the financing of the state fund of regional development more than half, he said.

As reported, funding for the Regional Development Fund at the level of UAH 8.1 billion is provided in the draft state budget for 2018 in the edition dated September 15, and it is provided UAH 6 billion in the new version of the law by the second reading.
