Moped bomb used in MP Mosiychuk assassination attempt – Kyiv prosecutors

The explosion that injured Radical Party parliament deputy Ihor Mosiychuk resulted from a remotely detonated handmade bomb placed in a moped, Kyiv Chief Prosecutor Roman Hovda has said.

"The area has been searched and it was determined that the explosion was caused by a remote-controlled handmade bomb that was placed in a moped deliberately parked by an unknown person at around 21:50 at the exit from the Espresso TV station," Hovda said during a briefing in Kyiv on Thursday.

The prosecutor said bomb contained an equivalent of between 400 to 600 grams of trotyl explosive.

"The first blast was, according to preliminary analysis, about 400 to 600 grams of trotyl," he said.

As earlier reported, on October 25 in Kyiv at the exit of the Espresso TV channel a blast occurred killing two policemen and wounding three persons, including Mosiychuk and political scientist Vitaliy Bala, who were immediately hospitalized and operated on. Policeman and Mosiychuk's bodyguard Ruslann Kushnir and a 36-year old local resident Mykhailo Mormel were killed. Kushnir died of his wounds en route to the hospital.

The blast is regarded as a terrorist attack. Ukraine's SBU Security Service is in charge of the investigation.
