Yanukovych submits motion to PGO on uprising – lawyer

Disgraced ex President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych has submitted a statement to Ukraine's Prosecutor General's Office (PGO) about what he called a state coup in the country, Yanukovych's lawyer Vitaly Serdiuk has said.

"In the [statement] events will be listed as well as individuals who did not wish to appear [at the trial], including Mr. Lutsenko," the lawyer told journalists on Thursday in front of Kyiv's Obolonsky District Court, which is hearing the case of state treason against Yanukovych.

According to the lawyer, Yanukovych's statement stresses a state coup was staged by "an organized group of people and all relevant and admissible evidence supports this fact."

"We are talking about deliberate and organized acts aimed at doing Ukraine harm. These include using force to seize power in our state. Namely these actions led to … negative events in Crimea and the loss of territorial integrity," Serdiuk said. He added that the statement was in the process of being registered [by the court] according to established procedure.
