Ukrainian, Polish foreign ministers consider acts of vandalism at memorials in their countries as part of Russia's hybrid war

Foreign ministers of Ukraine and Poland, Pavlo Klimkin and Witold Waszczykowski are assessing the recent acts of vandalism at the memorials of both nations as part of the hybrid war allegedly waged by Russia and are hoping that monitoring in the places will improve.

"The ministers have condemned the recent acts of vandalism against the sites of commemoration in Poland and Ukraine, emphasizing that those provocations are part of the hybrid war that Russia is waging, trying to cause harm to our partnership," the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry press service said following the meeting between the two ministers in Warsaw on Wednesday.

"An even closer cooperation between Ukraine and Poland, including with regard to identifying and punishing those perpetrators, will be our response to the actions by vandals," Klimkin said.

"We are aware of the acts of vandalism and we know that they are not accidental [...]. We know that this is being used absolutely on purpose," a Polish radio quoted Klimkin as having said.

Both sides are making efforts to improve monitoring at the memorials. "We talked about it today and this will be our priority," Klimkin said.

According to the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry press service, the Polish side, in turn, reaffirmed that it is ready and willing to make further efforts to strengthen a united position of the entire democratic world in support of Ukraine's territorial integrity and sovereignty and to facilitate implementation of reform.

The counterparts also discussed issues related to security, the bilateral cooperation in the energy sector, as well as Ukraine's line towards European integration and the North Atlantic Alliance, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said. Klimkin and Waszczykowski also discussed the regional interaction amid modern challenges and the threats associated with the Russian aggression, it said.
