NABU yet to receive full access to e-declarations

The National Agency on Corruption Prevention (NACP) has not yet provided any material on e-declarations to the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) regarding the possible unlawful enrichment, NABU Director Artem Sytnyk has said.

He said that the NABU hopes that it would receive full access to e-declaration.

"Unfortunately, the NABU is the only law enforcement agency which investigates into e-declarations. We from NABU have not received any material regarding unlawful enrichment. All of the 30 cases we have registered are our work," he said in Kyiv last week.

Sytnyk said that the NACP is the specialized agency that should be first involved in this.

"We are calling on them [NACP] to give us access to the database as soon as possible. We are checking e-declarations manually," he said.

He said that fist suspicions will be announced in several cases soon.

According the report of the NABU for the period from August 2016 through February 2017, NABU is investigating into 25 criminal cases concerning unlawful enrichment or placing untrue information into e-declarations by judges, lawmakers or other high-ranking officials.

Sytnyk said that the NABU returned over UAH 115 million at the stage of pretrial investigation.

He said that embezzlement of over UAH 500 million was prevented and losses of almost UAH 83 billion caused to the state were revealed.

"As of late January 50 criminal cases had been sent to court. The total loss from crimes committed under these cases is UAH 1.7 billion. Today 12 judgments of conviction took effect, but I want to say that this is work of detectives who signed plea bargaining agreements with those who wanted to do this," Sytnyk said.
