Court obliges NABU to close Martynenko case

Kyiv's Solomiansky District Court on January 11, 2017 heard a claim of the defending lawyer of former MP Mykola Martynenko Petro Boiko and obliged the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) to make a decision to close the case against his defendant within 10 days.

The press service of Martynenko reported on Thursday that the ruling cannot be appealed.

"The yesterday's court ruling closed the chapter on the slapstick played by Leshchenko, Sytnyk and Kholodnytsky [MP Serhiy Leshchenko, NABU Head Artem Sytnyk and Special Anti-corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO) Head Nazar Kholodnytsky]. I am as clean as a whistle and I am always ready to talk about my deeds. I hope that the organizers of my unlawful prosecution would be punished in the political and legal spheres," the press service said citing Martynenko as saying.

The details of the court ruling will be presented after announcing the declaration of intent on January 16.

As reported, on November 30, 2015 Martynenko has announced he will give up his mandate in connection with a corruption-related scandal involving his name and a smear campaign against him.

On December 22, 2015 the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine passed a draft decision on abdication of People's Front faction member Martynenko of his deputy powers.

On December 28, 2015 MP Leshchenko said that NABU is investigating two cases with involvement of Martynenko. They concern the signing of a contract by the state enterprise for the supply of uranium concentrate at the price exceeding the one set by producers and abuse of office in the supply of equipment to the nuclear power plants in Ukraine and taking bribes from Czech Skoda and sending the funds to an account in Switzerland.

Martynenko was questioned on January 18, 2016.
