Cash amount in e-declarations shows distrust of Ukrainian officials to their country
French Ambassador to Ukraine Isabelle Dumont believes that the fact the Ukrainian officials hold large amounts of cash indicates at the lack of their confidence in the Ukrainian banking system.
"I want to say again how much I'm impressed by the fact that Ukraine has managed to implement such a system. But I must also say about the impression – let’s put in this way, rather strange impression - which the amount of property and assets declared under this system made on France. In particular, huge amount of cash that is stored by individuals. It seems that some politicians and civil servants do not trust their own country," she said in an exclusive interview with Interfax-Ukraine.
The diplomat also said that in such conditions it is difficult to gain the trust of foreign investors and attract them to the country.
"It's hard to ask for a vote of confidence of investors at a time when high-level government figures show a lack of confidence," Dumont said.
French Ambassador expressed belief that the institutions responsible for combating corruption in Ukraine should be able to investigate every questionable fact indicated at e-declarations.
