Survey: Accession to NATO backed by 43% of Ukrainians

The number of Ukrainians who support Ukraine's accession to NATO has increased to 43% in September 2016, according to a survey conducted by the Rating sociological group on behest of the International Republican Institute.
In response to the question: "If a referendum on Ukraine's entry to NATO was held today, how would you vote?" 43% of respondents in September 2016 said they would vote for such accession (compared to 39% in June 2016), 29% would vote against (32% in June 2016), 11% would not take part in the vote (12% in June 2016). Some 17% found it difficult to answer.
The largest number of those who support Ukraine's entry into NATO lives the west of the country (68% would vote for the entry, 8% against), and in the center (47% for, 24% against). In the south of the number of NATO supporters and opponents is almost equal (36% for, 39% against). Residents of the east of Ukraine traditionally oppose the country's entry into NATO (17% for, 47% against).
The survey was conducted throughout Ukraine, excluding annexed Crimea and occupied territories of Donbas, from September 28 through October 7 (2016). The survey method was interviewing respondents at their place of residence. A total of 2,400 Ukrainian citizens 18 and older were questioned. The level of error of the poll does not exceed 2%.
