During talks with U.S. presidential candidate Hillary Clinton President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has informed her about the situation in Donbas region saying that Ukraine is today striving for freedom and democratic values which unite the entire civilized world, the press service of the Ukrainian head of state reported.

"The parties agreed that it is important to strengthen transatlantic unity and solidarity with Ukraine in order to confront Russian aggression. The effectiveness of sanctions policy against Russia was also noted," a communiqué reads released by the presidential press service on Tuesday morning.

Poroshenko also thanked Clinton for her constant and firm support to Ukraine.

In turn, Clinton stressed that in recent years Ukraine has demonstrated important progress in the fulfillment of reforms and expressed support for their continuation.

In addition, the U.S. presidential candidate greeted the Ukrainian people on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of independence.

As earlier reported, Poroshenko is paying a visit to the U.S. where he will deliver a speech at the 71st session of the UN General Assembly on September 21.
