Schulz tells Poroshenko he is working for European Parliament approval of visa-free regime

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz during a telephone conversation have coordinated their positions on the preparation for the Ukraine-EU high-level political consultations scheduled for June 27 in Brussels.

"Martin Schulz confirmed that Ukraine has duly fulfilled all the necessary criteria for the introduction of the EU visa-free regime for Ukrainian citizens. In this connection he said that he is making every effort to get a positive decision on this matter from the European Parliament in the near future," the presidential press service reported in Ukraine on Thursday.

Schulz and Poroshenko also discussed the situation in Donbas and noted the importance of further coordination of efforts in order to continue the sanctions on Russia, which should be in place until Ukraine restores its sovereignty over Donbas and Crimea.

The parties also discussed the progress made by Ukraine in holding reforms, the Poroshenko's press service reported.

The European Parliament president also welcomed the adoption of the constitutional amendments in the part of justice.
