Ukraine is preparing an application to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) against the Russian Federation for prohibiting the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, Justice Minister Pavlo Petrenko has said.

"Based on the events happening with the Mejlis, we've already prepared the draft application "Ukraine against Russia" on the illegality of a ban on the Mejlis imposed by the Russian government, and now we are coordinating it with our colleagues and lawyers that cooperate with the Mejlis. It will be the fifth application, the fifth interstate case in the European Court of Human Rights," he said at a press conference in Kyiv.

Petrenko also asked Head of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People Refat Chubarov to update the list of persons directly involved in all "fake" decisions on the prohibition of the Mejlis.

"The Ministry of Justice will request the Cabinet of Ministers to include these individuals in the Ukrainian sanctions list and propose including these people in the international sanctions list," he said.
