EU says Ukraine-EU summit rescheduled for September

The European Union has confirmed that Ukraine-EU summit, which was scheduled for May 19, will be postponed until September by mutual agreement.

According to the EU Delegation to Ukraine, the presidents of European Council, European Commission and Ukraine agreed to shift a summit, previously scheduled for May 19, to September.

Updates on the summit will be coordinated at a meeting of the senior leaders in Brussels ahead of European Council sitting in June.

According to the report, meanwhile the new Ukrainian government will move forward with reforms, and the decision to postpone the summit will make it possible for Kyiv to wait for a review of the IMF cooperation program, as well as to assess a provisional application of Association Agreement, including Ukraine-EU Free Trade Area Agreement.

Earlier deputy head of the Ukrainian presidential administration Kostiantyn Yeliseyev reported that the EU-Ukraine summit scheduled to be held on May 19, 2016 was postponed until September on the agreement reached by the parties. He said the precise date will be specified at a high-level meeting in Brussels, which is expected to take place in Brussels in late June.
