All to be done in new year to increase European investment in Ukraine - Poroshenko

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has stated that in 2016 Ukraine managed to "throw open the door to Europe."

"It is symbolic that on the eve of the holidays we've received several important decisions of the European Union. We did not open a window to Europe, we threw open the door," he said in his New Year greetings to the Ukrainian people.

He noted the positive report of the European Commission on a visa-free regime and the launch of a free trade area between Ukraine and the EU from January 1, 2016.

"We need to clear the corridor for an inflow of European investments to Ukraine. Investment is jobs. Investment is the restoration of economic growth. Investment is a matter of the well-being of every Ukrainian," Poroshenko said.

He also noted the importance of fighting corruption in the country.

"We've provided all the prerequisites for such a struggle. We've opened fundamentally new and politically independent anti-corruption agencies. People with new values passed the tender to enter the authorities. They came to work under the watchful eye of the civil society," the head of state said.
