Ukraine delays creation of NACP – EU ambassador

Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Ukraine Jan Tombinski has said that Ukrainian authorities have delayed the process of creating the National Agency for Corruption Prevention (NACP), which is important in the visa dialog between Kyiv and Brussels.

"The law on the agency was passed six months ago. The selection panel was created and it was to select five members, while only three members have been selected. This does not add confidence in the general process," the diplomat said in an exclusive interview with Interfax-Ukraine on Wednesday.

He said that the agency is one of the elements of the general vision of how Ukraine plans to fight corruption.

There is no confidence inside Ukraine, and this is first of all important not for the EU, but for Ukraine, Tombinski said.

The diplomat said that all politicians in Ukraine understand one of the most serious problems – corruption, which must be rooted out.

"During three years in Ukraine I haven't head a statement from any political figure that there is no corruption in Ukraine and everything is good. Why the steps are done on this way under the external pressure? Why do you make this inside the country? I think that it is better to report to Brussels that Ukraine is moving the right way without any reminding about it," he said.
