Poroshenko enacts amendments to Code of Criminal Procedure over property arrest

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has enacted law No. 769-VII amending the Code of Criminal Procedure of Ukraine regarding some issues of arresting property aimed at removing corruption risks when it is applied, the press service of the president has reported.

The law will improve the application of the rules of the Code of Criminal Procedure in part of compensation for harm caused by criminal actions of suspect or accused, and it makes impossible unfair use of the legislative mechanisms to avoid seizure of property. The document also increases the efficiency of pretrial investigations.

The law allows arresting property of any persons if the property can be used as evidence in criminal cases or the procedure of special seizure of property can be applied.

The document also allows compensating damage caused due to the crime and send improper advantage to the budget.

The list of assess that could be arrested is unified.

The parliament passed the document on November 10, 2015.
