Kyiv awaiting Kolobov's extradition to complete inquiry into Ukrtelecom privatization

Kyiv is awaiting the extradition of former finance minister of Ukraine Yuriy Kolobov from Spain to complete the investigation into violations committed during the privatization of Ukrtelecom, Head of the Prosecutor General's Office specialized investigations department Serhiy Horbatiuk said at a press briefing in Kyiv on Tuesday.

"Investigators received permission from a court to carry out a special pre-trial investigation, the so-called conviction in absentia [into ex-President Viktor Yanukovych], within the framework of the criminal proceedings which deal with irregularities in the privatization of Ukrtelecom. The investigation is ongoing. As you know, former Finance Minister Kolobov, who is also a suspect in this case, was detained in Spain. It is important to complete the investigation with respect to these two individuals. Therefore, we are now awaiting Kolobov's extradition to complete it," he said at a press conference in Kyiv on Tuesday.

Kolobov is suspected of committing a criminal offense under Part 5 of Article 191 of the Criminal Code (misappropriation, embezzlement of property through abuse of office). He was arrested in the resort town of Altea, Valencia, Spain, at the beginning of March 2015.
