Ukraine's judicial reform should be based on full reboot of courts - Yatseniuk

Judicial reform in Ukraine should be based on the full reboot of the judiciary, Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatseniuk has said.

"The judicial reform, which is offered to the government and is supported by the president of Ukraine, lies in the need for a reboot of all the courts. I emphasize: a full reboot. This means that Ukraine should recruit new judges based on the same principle on which the national police was formed," Yatseniuk said while opening a government meeting on Wednesday.

"The first element of our judicial reform is the reboot of the judiciary, the election of new judges based on transparent tenders and the formation of new Ukrainian courts," the prime minister said.

"The second element of our judicial reform is the formation of a three-tier system, which envisages the existence of local courts, and the lion's share of cases should be resolved in local courts, and litigations should not last for dozens of years in appellate courts, specialized courts and the Supreme Court," Yatseniuk said.
