Poroshenko not ruling out Normandy Four meeting in New York

Foreign ministers of the Normandy Four nations could meet on the sidelines of the General Assembly in New York, the Ukrainian presidential administration has confirmed.

"We are not ruling out that a meeting can be held at the level of the foreign ministers of the Normandy Quartet," Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration of Ukraine Kostiantyn Yeliseyev told a briefing conference on Friday.

He also recalled that the summit of the Normandy Four nations is due to be held on October 2 in Paris, at which the leaders of the countries will discuss the situation in Donbas.

"But still I cannot rule out the possibility of any bilateral meetings [during the General Assembly], and ones with German Chancellor Angela Merkel in particular, for the purpose of coordinating our positions ahead of the October 2 Normandy Four meeting," Yeliseyev said.

The Normandy Four nations gathering in order to settle the crisis in eastern Ukraine include Germany, Russia, France and Ukraine.
