MP Oleksandr Shevchenko leaves Petro Poroshenko Bloc

MP Oleksandr Shevchenko has announced that he has left Petro Poroshenko Bloc faction in the parliament as he can no longer support the party's policies.

"It's time for crucial steps. I made the decision to leave Petro Poroshenko Bloc in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. This decision was determined not by the current situation and by those attempting to escape the sinking Titanic. Still, there are lots of possibilities on its deck for those aiming at political careers and governmental engagement. But there are key issues, which are high above political maneuvers and career priorities," Shevchenko said in a statement which has been posted on his website.

He said that he joined Petro Poroshenko Bloc as he shared the faction's political priorities on the coalition agreement, as well has the faction's manifesto in last year's elections. Shevchenko said.

"If Petro Poroshenko Bloc betrays its oaths due to external pressure, my human duty, my status as a Ukrainian MP, there is no other choice for me than to leave as my patriotic dignity tells me. As the promises for the leader of this team turned out to be only pre-election public relations," Shevchenko said, adding he has fundamental difference in views with those that now lead the faction.

The course of Petro Poroshenko Bloc is aimed at phasing-out the Revolution of Dignity and implementing pseudo-reforms without fundamental changes, Shevchenko said.

"I have different views with those, who started arresting Maidan activists, and suspended investigation of the crimes when the Heavenly Hundred were shot dead, the crimes relating to the robbery of the country during the Yanukovych [presidency] era, the crimes related to the unprofessional commanding of military formations in eastern Ukraine, which resulted in tremendous sacrifices," Shevchenko said.
