Kuchma sees good chance to sign deal on tanks, weaponry under 100 mm pullback on Sept 22

Ukrainian representative to the Trilateral Contact Group, Second Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma is hopeful of signing an agreement on the withdrawal of weapons with caliber under 100mm on September 22.

"We have a chance [to sign the agreement] on the 22nd," he told reporters in Kyiv on Friday.

Kuchma said he hoped the agreement would be signed and the situation in the east of the country would start to stabilize.

He said it was important not only to sign some document but also to fulfill it. "Has the first protocol been fulfilled or not? And not even one but two. They [the protocols] also pledged a ceasefire, the withdrawal of all weapons with a caliber over 120mm and a verification. Yet nothing of the sort was done," Kuchma said.

He noted that every provision of the Minsk Protocol must be fulfilled before the end of this year, including the restoration of Ukraine's control over the border with Russia.
